Another Volvo sunroof thread

Post by MisplacedCanuck » Wed May 06, 2020 11:51 am

Hoping someone can help me out. Repaired my siren module. Can confirm it now works great. My upper console lights now work after key in door lock unlock x3. Still no operating sunroof. What's next?

Did you check your fuses? Did you check your switch? Some people pull the connector so it never opens (I do on my BMWs)..

Can you open the sunroof with the manual crank? Have you checked power to the switch with a VOM? Can you jumper the switch as it could be bad (you can test them with a VOM).

Fuses are good... I don't see anywhere to insert a crank (my 92 civic had a spot for that, was great!)

The switch looks like it's part of a big module? Unsure if I should disassemble... Can't see where the motor for the sunroof is to check voltage to motor

Look at your owner's manual for how to manually operate the sunroof.

This should tell you where the motor is - it is there.

Also do a search on resetting the door locks - this may solve your issues and I would try first.

Okay I did some digging. It appears part of the motor can be seen when the light/switch/mirror panel is removed. Full access to the motor requires the headliner to be removed. I recall working on a sunroof rattle many years ago and dropping just the front part of the headliner and then working through various gaps allowed me access to the motor.

I pulled an Owners Manual for an XC70 and it did not provide any information on manual roof operation. I did read on some post on another forum that there is a nut/bolt that can be turned to move the sunroof - I cannot confirm this. It should be apparent if this is true by looking at the motor and gear mechanism.

Here are some links of things people have gone through. You can continue reading by looking at the various Similar Topics section on these links.

Start with trying a reset as some have had luck with this.
