Used parts in your trunk?

Post by Eddystone » Wed May 06, 2020 12:45 pm

So, how many of you buy new parts mainly for preventive maintenance and then find that you are keeping the old parts in a box in your trunk?

I sometimes remove parts (plug wires for example) that seem to be perfectly good and have a hard time just tossing them in the trash. I'm in a particularly tough spot because one of my cars has plug wires and the other just has connectors...

A couple of years ago, my fuel pump went bad on a long trip. Ever since then, I take a bag full of relays and whatnot when I hit the road for a trip.

I usually toss the part I just changed in the trunk for a few weeks, just in case the new part if defective. After that it gets thrown into the box of old part that may or may not be useful one day

I just keep a spare accessories belt in the trunk all the time because it doesn't take much space and could have other uses

Every time the serpentine belt is changed I have them put the old one with the spare tire. I figure finding the correct belt for a Volvo outside of a big city is not likely. In reality I have never had a Volvo belt fail. So I don't really know why I bother... June
