The Ever Alluding Oil leak part 9458504

Post by subzerocarfanatic » Fri May 15, 2020 11:39 am

Well I finally believe I found and fixed my leak that I have been battling with for the past 4 months. After basically overhauling so many things on the car from front and rear brakes and pads to all new suspension among other things, when I was done I had a leak that was near impossible to find to fix.
I could idle the car for 30 minutes and it would not leak a drop, but as soon as I drove down the road it would leak,it was leaking down on the axle shaft from the top, so as it would spin when driving it would sling fluid on everything making it very hard to pinpoint.I replaced several of the copper compression washers on all the lines going to and from the turbo yet still had a leak.I strapped a cell phone and a flashlight to a coolant line and turned on the video recorder and went to drive it to find the leak.
I finally decided to do what abscate had recommended, check the turbo oil drain tube ( which as we know is an absolute pain to get off and on), I had installed a new gasket already on the top end where it screws in to the turbo and replaced the o-ring type gasket on the bottom where it fits into the back side of the engine,I figured I have nothing to lose so I removed it and replaced both same gaskets again and this time it seems to have resolved my issue, man what a relief. Time will tell with more driving if it is truly fixed.I will report back.

This gasket makes no sense in terms of the spatter you get when it goes, so I ignored an early recommendation from MoVolvo to replace it. It was exactly the cause of the same huge spray oil leak you describe for me.
