Rear Passenger Window

Help, Advice, Owners' Discussion and DIY Tutorials on Volvo XC90s. The XC90 proved to be very popular, and very good for Volvo's sales numbers, since its introduction in model year 2003 (North America).

Rear Passenger Window

Post by netasp » Sun May 17, 2020 8:45 am

Guys,
Yesterday i am trying to roll up my rear passenger window when I heard two loud bangs, then I hear the motor trying to roll up the window but the window doesn't come up. It will come down but won't come go up.

If i roll it up by pushing it with my hands, it will eventually come down with every pothole on the road.

what am i looking at?

Hopefully it's the sliding block clips.
Use a paint scraper or beefy putty knife or trim tool instead of your fingers to remove the door card. Insert starting at the bottom and slide until you feel a clip, then pull/pop towards you, then on to the next. More like this:

I think I might need a new regulator, are there any instructions on how to install it for XC90? There are some rivets that holds it in place, and some video suggesting that I have to drill them out and use a special machine to insert them back?

can someone confirm please?

Enter the search term "download vida image". You can download the Volvo (VIDA) software that contains all the repair and replacement procedures, parts catalog etc. Pair that with a cloned DiCE unit off ebay or wherever if you want to perform diagnostics.

Yes, you would need a rivet gun and rivets and a drill motor and bit to drill it out.
This is probably similar:

Thank you. I will have to do something about the rivets gun.
I am posting some pictures from VIDA in case someone else might need to do the same thing with part numbers

Instead of rivets, I drilled out the holes slightly and used short bolts with nuts. This worked fine and makes disassembly easier if you have to ever remove. Just make sure the ends of the bolts don't interfere with anything. I used SAE 1/4 inch bolts maybe 1/2 inch long. I believe I placed the nuts on the side you can see.

Yes. I was thinking of the same thing. For now I used twist tie and taps to wrap the handle to prevent the window from coming down while driving.

Not ready to give up the xc90 yet, 230KM on it and still going like a tank
