How much have you spent in maintenance?

Post by 2013volvoxc60 » Tue Jun 02, 2020 6:24 am

I have a 2013 Volvo XC60 with 97k on the odometer. So far the costs over 7 years have totaled 9768.41

The vehicle has been serviced ONLY at a Volvo dealership. Some interesting facts over these 100k miles:

1. The battery has had to have been replaced 3 times.

2. The brake lights have been replaced 3 times.

3. Vacuum pump replaced at 68k

4. Right engine mount replaced at 78k

5. Alternator replaced at 94k

6. Passenger side mirror closing mechanism screwed up at 30k

7. Left headlight bulb went out at 79k

Of the service records? That's a lot of photos to take and edit. I don't think I'll be doing that at this time.

Your cost of maintenance $9768.41 over 7 years for the 7 items indicates it could balloon once out of warranty.

Trade-in your 2013 XC60 if you're not a DIYer.

Add on scheduled maintenance as some of the 7 listed items were likely warranty. June

2013 XC60

Based on the information that you provided I am assuming that you bought your XC60 in 2013 and that it was a new vehicle.

The XC60 is a P3 platform vehicle.

I own two P3 vehicles

2010 S80 (purchased used)

2008 LR2 (purchased new)

The LR2 (Land Rover) has been very inexpensive to own.

Note: the LR2 uses the same 3.2 liter 6 cylinder engine as my Volvo (and likely your Volvo as well).

During the first 4 years of ownership all maintenance was covered.

Based on your Dealership only strategy I recommend that you look into the cost of prepaid maintenance.

The Dealership is not the low cost solution.

It may be possible to help you find an independent that could take excellent care of your XC60 but I need more information like where do you live in Texas? (The closest big city is sufficient information)

How much longer are you going to keep your XC60?

Take care

Paul

Find a good indie mechanic, dealer is expensive.
All cars require regular maintenance to keep them running good n' safe. This is independent of how much the car cost as brand new. If you feel you can't afford the bills buy a car that is cheaper to repair/service or start bicycling. Or, spend some time researching online how to do it yourself. Always a good feeling having had something fixed yourself knowing how much moneys you saved by not taking it to the shop 😃
