ive cracked my sump (oil pan) taking a shortcut to the mountains and hit a large stone on the road at speed.
has anyone changed their pan out, i spoke to the Volvo dealer and he said he sold many pans its very common.
My question is the little oil valve seated near the oil filter, how do i test it? i have two and ive sprayed some carby cleaner on both and the solvent passes through, the valve looks closed on both valves. are they both defective or normal??
No problems as far as warning lights or codes before my accident

I had a question about that little bugger also. Jimmy57 answered it in a thread I had a year or so ago. Let me dig it up.
See below. Take a good look at your oil pickup tube and it’s screen while you’re in there. There is an updated version which has a bellmouth shape to it which allows particulates to fall out of the bell to the bottom of the oil pan vs being “trapped” in there like the original metal pickup tube.

The original one will be metal & stained brown from oil exposure. The updated one is plastic & black in color.

New pickup tube only matters if you are cornering very hard. Otherwise, old metal tube will live forever.
It is also possible to TIG weld the cracked pan, that can be cheaper.

thanks, i asked tow truck driver/mechanic if he could weld fix the pan and he said "NO" its an alloy it cannot be welded. Maybe i should have said TIG welding he probably does conventional welding...
Anyway i got a tow (200kms) back home and have my replacement pan cleaned up waiting for the new seals and sealant from Volvo parts.

you can weld the pan, if it is just cracked. But, the pan MUST be removed from the engine, completely cleaned first. there are tools/techniques to weld aluminum.
Please don't attempt to weld the pan while on the car.
