P80 head bolt tools

P80 head bolt tools

Removing a P80 head and have broken

14 mm six point socket Tekron
14 mm six point deep socket Tekron

Two Pittsburgh extenderS 3/8

Problem is , none of 1/2 sockets will clear the hole in t-he cylinder head

Does anyone have a 1/2 drive six point 14 mm solution they can share

I’ve gotten 11/12 out and the last one stripped, so I’m drilling. No rush

I bought a set of Stanley deep socket six point impact from Walmart expressly for the 14 mm to use on head bolts. It is lower quality so slightly thinner walled and fits in there nicely.

So shop the cheapies. Stanley is not high quality but high enough to get the head job done the three times I needed it. If you can't find one that fits or just prefer it, I can send it to you. Lmk.

Are you sure it is stripped and not broken in two?

Flood the hole with Liquid Wrench and let it soak for a week, keep it the level up.
I snapped one off in a 960. After soaking, a guided left hand drill bit spun it right out.

Bolt head stripped off last one. I am going to take it to a machine shop for that one since I can’t get the whole engine under my drill press easily. I need them to dip the head so no extra trip.

A guide does not need dead precision in this case.

For a drill guide:
1. Sleeve the left hand drill bit with a rubber hose.
2. Spin bit and hose in a hand held drill.
3. Sand the hose down to size.
4. lubricate hose.

It is the day for broken tools. I broke (again) a T40 Torx. It was Craftsman purchased this week. The real world rating is less than 37 Foot-Lb.

The 14mm I'm using is actually from HF. Been working fine for some time now, it's the deep black power tool socket set.

Almost forgot ... SK Suregrip sockets. They engage the bolt heads near the center of the flats rather then the corners. Wright's Wrightgrip, Snap-On's Flank Drive, Craftsman's Extreme Grip works the same way. Most impact sockets are designed this way.
