What was your car that got away?

The one that got away?

Mine was a 1971 Dodge Dart Swinger 318, black top, Citron Yella. When I got it it had 71k miles.

Dodge Challenger 1970/1971. Bought in 1992 for $200 and sold for a few more a year later. That money would probably buy one of the door handles today.

Just a six, but still...

EDIT: Engine size was compensated by painting it with 12 rattle cans of flat black primer. It looked badass! Original color was light blue metallic with a black vinyl roof that got ripped off.

My dad's 1976 Buick Electra Limited Park Avenue. I learned to drive in her. My friends and I had so many adventures in that car. I wanted it, but dad felt I should stick with new cars  just to be safe... He meant well. I looked and looked for another one, but they were too rare and even the more common 225 were falling apart, rusty, or high miles once for sale circa 1985. June

1974 Chrysler (Dodge) Galant hardtop.

I had converted it to a 2.6L Mitsubishi Astron with a 5 speed manual box. It weighed less than 900kg

I had converted it to run face vents from a modified Lancer hatch console and switch gear (turn signals and wipers) were on one stalk from a later model.

Quad headlight model with 300W halogen high beams from converted handheld spotlights.

Larger front discs and struts from the larger Sigma model (a straight bolt-in) and a 9 inch rear drum setup from the wagon variant. Wheels were Sigma 14 inch

Because of the extra engine weight it cried out for power steering. I gave it up because of the leaf spring rear end that had caught me out a few times with see-saw rear end loss of traction. Swapping to IRS from a Datsun 1600 or 180B would have been ideal but costly.

For a brief time in the early 80's I owned a 1976 Chevrolet Caprice Classic with 454 and lots of options. It was big as an ocean liner and used almost as much fuel. But, I really liked the ride. I bought it because I had wrecked my Mitsubishi Colt and needed an automatic transmission until my shoulder healed. I later drove it out to Denver and my father in law sold it for me.

I once gave away an Alfa Romeo Giulia Super sedan. 1967 1600. No engine. Nobody wanted them. Now they're a cult car worth quite a bit. I gave it to a guy who raced one in SCCA for spares. Remember the original Italian Job and all those Alfa police cars? That was it.

It didn't look like this but it was white and in nice shape.

Is it time for a 1964 122 wagon?

1972 Plymouth roadrunner. 340 High Performance, 750 Thermoquad, 4 speed, Hurst pistol grip. At the time I also had a Plymouth Duster and something else. Mom persuaded me to sell the Roadrunner to my brother on credit so he could get to his new job. I would of sold him the Duster instead but the Ex wanted to keep it.

In hindsight I should of loaned him a car until he could buy his own.
