Four-C

Post by Danpaco »

Can the Four-C suspension be taken out and replaced with non-Four-C? I assume the dashboard will light up but is there anything else I should be concerned with.

The wiring should be there.

You would need to get:
1. Suspension Control Module (SUM).
2. Switch unit in dash.
3. Rear left angle sensor.
4. Rear right angle sensor.
5. Two Monroe C2501 struts.
6. Two Monroe C1501 shocks.
7. A total of five Acceleration sensors. Two at ends of bumper. Two on struts and one in the left rear quarter panel.

You may need to activate the 4C in the CEM.

I believe the original question was how to remove 4C, not how to add 4C.

Wack!

There might be a flag to deactivate Active suspension in the CEM. Pulling fuse F24 in the REM will shut down the SUM. Either one might quell any complaints. If you are already getting Active suspension warnings you might go ahead and try this now.

Danpaco what you going to do with the Strut Acceleration sensors? I intend to add 4C back into my S60R project sometime down the road. Previous owner removed the 4C Struts and Acceleration sensors. Still have the 4C shocks and other components but do not know what shape they are in.

Thanks for the reply.
I need a suspension overhaul on both front and back of my XC-70. I'm having a hard time justifying the cost of a four-C overhaul vs a good OE replacement considering the age and mileage of the car.

Unfortunately Abscate, I'm not in the Valley anymore, we moved back to Toronto. With the current border closures lasting until at least July 31st I wont be travelling south for a while. That would have been fun.

What's the price diff of a "normal" shock/strut and the electronically controlled one?

The four-c front strut in Canada from the parts store (Monroe 2503) is $850 each vs a regular Sachs strut being $250ish! The rear four-c shocks are similar although I haven't checked specifically. From the US they are $500 each in Canadian dollars from Viva but considering covid delays with Canada Post who knows when they will arrive.

Convert front to regular, rear to Nivomats. XC70 on a regular suspension is not a very good driver car. Nivomats are 1/2 of 4C price, and you need only rears.
