Disappointing Harry's Experience

Post by E Showell »

As some of you may know, Harry's U Pull It in West Hazelton, Pa. is my go to junkyard.

I had a disappointing experience there yesterday. To wit, the on-line inventory did not closely correlate with actual inventory on the ground, and not in a good way. There were far fewer Volvos on the ground than what was listed in inventory. In fact, entire numbered rows were simply not present.

In fairness, this is the only time that has happened to me, but with a 1.5+ hour trip one way, I'd prefer a little less of a crapshoot.

Disappointing. I've heard you guys mention that place often.

I had a sort of similar experience. I was looking for an old BMW manual trans. A yard in Spokane (3 hours) showed a manual car on their website. I called, they couldn't confirm. I waited for a verification. I called again. They "weren't sure" where it was. I almost went over there to look. I called and finally got someone who knew something....""That car was crushed weeks ago."

My local junkyard is 300 miles away but they always have up to 20 P2 volvos stacked double decker.
I'll be making a trip with a shopping list before the fall.
Its always a crap shoot. You can always call erie volvo.

Needed a yaw sensor for the in law's XC-90.
FYI: It lives under the front passenger seat (with an amplifier?) and gets wet from open windows and clogged AC drains.

Chuck & Eddie's in Connecticut, and other yarders, told me such sensors aren't even in the computer program junkyards use so they don't keep track. How's that for caring involvement with your own business?
It took 4 phone calls to remind the FRIKKIN' MANAGER to go out and look.

Finally he found one. 100$ for a part they routinely crush. Oh well, better than the $650 a new one could've cost.
