Climate Control

Post by redc70 » Mon Jun 15, 2020 11:25 am

Hello everyone,
Double checking that I am doing the right one. 99 C70 LPT has both hot and cold air coming from the dash vents and hot air to the defrost while in auto mode. Nothing changes in any other position, except full defrost. I have never had heat or cold air coming from the floor. I am getting CCM-222 from VIda which is air distribution damper motor. I am pretty sure this is the damper motor above the heater core on the left side ,at least that is how I view the diagram in Vida Dice. I do have another one to replace it if so. Am I in the right direction?
Many thanks,
Rob

If it's the same as 1998 v70, then you are correct. I just had to pull mine, It didn't want to come off, without some gentle prying with screwdriver. My damper motor tested ok on bench. I didn't have flashing lights at startup, but the ECC failed to move the motor.

As soon as I removed the damper, and adjusted the damper manually, I had to see if I had vent air flow. I did, my problem was all flow to defrost when I needed AC blowing on me.

But I turned the car on with the damper disconnected, and got the flashing lights error signal. After connecting damper motor and two on/off cycles, the flashing lights are gone. I'm driving with the damper motor unmounted and connected for now, until I get a used ECC unit. I'll adjust manually, for now, if I need defrost anytime soon.

Thanks for the response. How did you adjust the damper manually? We don't really need defrost down here anytime of the year. I took the damper motor off this evening and installed the new one. It did turn fully one direction but then nothing else after that. Tested with VIDA and did not complete the test as before with the old one. Not sure how to proceed.

I rotated (adjusted) the white cam that drives the damper. The white cam seems the stay put with friction. Some tape should work if it is loose. For other dampers without the cam setup, I would use a 9 volt battery to adjust damper motor, and then mount the motor with electrically disconnected.

In a 1999, the air distribution changed.

The ECC control unit automatically calibrates the positions when you turn it on. You do want to try to match the position of the damper and motor when replacing

Warning...jimmy has reported you can get stuck in recalibration Hades with the 1999 on and have to install the control unit on another car to unstick it,

This might end up being a trip to the dealer.
