Just did a 1000km trip in my 239k 2001xc70. My trip computer at start of trip said 11litres/100km but is now saying 9.6L/100km i think thats around 29.12 Miles per 1 US gallon (not sure)
Is this good for a 19 year old car?

What was average road speed during this trip? Mostly highway or city? What engine do you have?

There are a driving variables as well as "mechanical" ones that influence quite a bit these numbers
As mentioned above, 120kmh (75mph) vs 90kmh (55mph) gives very different mpg
Tire pressure, wheel geometry, tire size also matter a bit, winds
"Mechanically" speaking, can influence a lot, injectors not having a good spray pattern, faulty O2 sensor, spark plugs, air filter, piston compression, PCV, various sensors..

No motorway/highway, alot of winding steep climbs and decents. speed from 100km/h max to 80km/h alot of road works. Engine is 2.4T manual, used cruise control on the few straight sections, generally drove like an old man.

On both our P2 cars (2003 V70 2.4 NA auto and 2005 S80 2.5T auto) I found that the onboard mileage calculator always indicated SLIGHTLY worse MPG than if I calculated actual fuel burned vs actual miles traveled. I also found that I could get better mileage by NOT using CC. CC doesn’t have the ability to look down the road and “anticipate” what power will be needed to climb the next hill and slowly increase the throttle ahead of the hill in order to avoid laboring the engine and causing unnecessary downshifting, etc. Conversely for when you see a downhill coming - you can start letting up on the gas ahead of time.

Steep roads will indeed take a tool on mpg, even if you also go downhill, I think uphill mpg is a lot worse than downhill 'savings'.
Also going from 80 to 100 (60mph) means accelerations, another factor
I feel you are not far from the right numbers at 10l/100km given the conditions for the turbo AWD, I would be have been surprised to see 8l/100km. How is city mpg ?
