AC Line insulating question

Post by subzerocarfanatic »

I am wrapping the larger of the 2 AC lines that run parallel under the coolant recovery tank.My question is,does the smaller line get cold at all or just the bigger one that is the one from the receiver/drier?
I will post some pictures of what i'm doing and the lines in question in a bit.
Ok, here are the images, this was a slow tedious pain and having OCD does not help. At least now when we use the AC on really hot days it will not work the AC so hard since the sweating from cold lines will be at a minimum. I used cork cold wrap tap to insulate the lines then went over it more or less to make it look nicer with TESA 51608 ISOBAND adhesive cloth wrap to help insulate it and clean up the appearance a bit. I also wrapped the receiver/drier with the same method.
This will help the AC blow colder and not work so hard on really hot days.

If anyone ever decided to do this, if you look in picture #4 you can see the wire i used to wrap around the larger line where it curves and pulled up a bit and anchored the wire to the upper metal support because without raising the line up you can not get to the line to wrap it because it lays flat on the metal surface area and right up against the other AC return line.
There is a bracket that goes around the Receiver/Drier that clamps around it and held with one 10mm screw,at the top of that bracket it is bolted to a small L shaped bracket to the inner top frame engine bay area with a 10mm screw by the service valve where the black plastic cap with yellow writing on top.

Don’t forget to measure your temp delta..

1500 rpm
Recirc on
Fab speed 3/4
15 minutes with windows close
Measure ambient and vent temp at middle dash

Interested to see how performance approves
