2005 XC90 5 cylinder stalled while driving.

Post by jasonbert » Sun Jun 21, 2020 9:53 pm

Was out shopping, stop at a store was in store for 20 minutes. When came out, car started and drove for 2 minutes and car started stalling. The car wouldn't restart, left me and my family stranded. Got a tow home, had a friend put a computer on it. And got error for crankshaft sensor. Replaced crankshaft sensor, no start just cranking. I replaced the electronic fuel module, still no start. Took it to a shop they told me I was only getting 75 PSI compression, need around 150 psi. Was told to get a new engine. Could this be a fuel problem? My top two cams where in the right position. I don't feel like the engine would just die all of a sudden. Please help???

How many miles on it ? I understand the timing belt looks good ? Could it have jumped a few teeth ? Maybe undo the left cover to have a look at the tensioner and water pump. 75 psi compression is really low - if they measured it correctly, that would meant the valves hit the pistons. When you crank does it make a noise like a vacuum cleaner, spinning fast like this ? www.youtube.com/watch?v=3J3qYNmcy3k

Try measuring the fuel pressure with a gauge, it should read around 60 psi . May also try to ask on the S60 forum, for a 2.5T engine . You have the AWD (which can have problems with the DEM) and there was also a recall for water leak through the CEM harness under the windshield cowl, but otherwise it's pretty much same issues as the S60
