Should I swap my ETM with this junkyard unit?

Post by smacknab » Mon Jun 22, 2020 5:02 pm

Hi friends,

I have a white label made in Italy etm that's giving me the ETS light pretty consistently and occasional problems like idle dips to about 600 when coasting to a red light stop in neutral. The idle returns to normal as soon as I come to a complete stop.

I found this made in Sweden etm off a junkyard unit that was also 99 and non turbo. I know swapping any etm is never a sure shot, but I wanted to see if anyone knows if these units can't be swapped between made in Italy and made in Sweden units?

Thanks for the time!

My understanding is the you can swap ETM's with no programming required.
turbo to turbo
none turbo to none turbo
And it looks like it is the newer contact less version like XeModeX.

Ah interesting, I was wondering why it said made in Sweden since I had never seen that mentioned on the forums about units. That said, the plastic caps on the side do say magnetti marelli, which is the Italian part no? So I'm not sure if they also made the contactless update?

Also - I just sent it and installed the etm. It runs so the software must be fine, and the throttle response has noticeably improved, but it hunts a little more at idle (fluctuations between say 830-870 rpm). So I'm not sure if it's a better or worse unit yet.

Anyone know if there's a calibration period for these after swapping?

Since you disconnected the negative terminal for electrical work safety,
, :8 your throttle adaptations need some driving to reset.

I believe a DENSO car only has one software rev so swaps work NA, but turbos have many revisions so swaps don’t work asa rule
