1999 S70 GLT Rear Suspension Upgrade Order

Post by ericmci » Tue Jun 23, 2020 4:00 pm

Hello,

I have a 1999 S70 GLT]

I am replacing the majority of the rear suspension- Shocks- Springs- Delta end links and the transverse arm mounts.
Just wondering if there is a preferred order for doing all of these at once, i.e. does having the springs and shocks out relieve pressure for the delta and transverse mounts?
My plan as it is now is to do Delta links(I have the special Volvo factory tool to help with these) and Shocks- then springs so that I can use the jack points on the spring cup since I am doing this on the ground. And finishing with the the transverse mounts.
I had considered mounting the car on the reinforced tire jack center body pin jack points \ but they don't really sit well in jack stands without the sides of the jack stand digging into the body, unless you cut a notch in a 2x4 to place on top of the jack stand to distribute the weight- which is a possibility.

As long as the transverse mounts can be replaced without having to remove any other components I might just do everything else first do those last with the rest of the suspension system in place.

Can anyone thing of better order to facilitate all of this?

Thanks in advance!

-Eric

You need to block the car closer to the work area . You should’ve able to get jack stands under the axle beam and do one side of at a time.

I don’t think the springs interfere with the delta link job

Hey thanks-
So when you axle are we talking about the transverse arms?
If so would supporting the car on one side be balanced enough to remove the transverse arm mounts one at a time?

Hi Eric,
You’ll probably get more interest and responses in the correct forum. This one is for 2001-2007 V70 & XC70 and 2001-2009 S60. Good luck! 🙂
