2000 V70 repair manual? Sheesh

Post by tombrisk » Fri Jun 26, 2020 3:01 pm

Haynes / Chilton stop at 1999. Anything out there? Right now, I'll be reinstalling the cat (welded the turbo flange back on). It'd be swell to have an Idiots Manual!!

P.S. 1st 'modern' Volvo, I'm thinking I'd like to go back to carbs, distributor, etc. :-(

Haynes 4263 manual (V70 200 to 2007 and S80 1998 to Feb 2006) may be helpful, but does not cover AWD. I have a copy and it helps, but is not very detailed. It is the only paper manual I am aware of. There are the computer instruction/troubleshooting/diagnostic software available.

This model will grow on you. So much more refined than the 240 series.

Good to know, thanks.
In the time I've had it, I know it'll be enjoyable. Nice 4 season rig.
I'm a handyman-do-all, so it'll also save me a ton of gas. I don't always need my E350XL HD beast!!

That E350 has to be newer and better mileage than my 1977 F350 with 460. But the F350 will pull nearly anything. My first Volvo was 1975 245. It hauled lots of stuff in it's time.

460, that's quite the lump!!
I don't look at mileage anymore, I just pray, every time I start it, that the Triton doesn't blow another spark plug.
I have a buddy on Vashon Island that bought 2 122S's. He's building it to scoot! As the premier custom home builder/$50k bathroom remodeler, he's got the dosh to do it right

For. 2000 get VIDA from an image download for free. Need a pc to run it, but that has everything you need.

With a Dice interface, you can talk to your 2000 and really troubleshoot stuff

Ok, VIDA sounds good, but how do I access that 'free' part??

Again one of my posts seem to have disappeared!

The Haynes manual is a European car specification book. They have different offerings in terms of engines. Main thing is a 99 in UK was a 2000 here, so it covers all 98-00 North American years. The issues come with market options and variances. I find it helpful for maintenance and torque settings. Sometimes they miss out on steps needed to do a job, but the same can be said of any manual including Volvo's Vida. The newer the car the more generic they become covering many models but often missing key points.

The P80 models are covered pretty well in Vida though often with actual pictures and not just drawings.

I have both Vida and a Haynes manual. Not sure about the Chiltons (now same publisher as Hayens). I bought a Chiltons and Haynes manual for my 2003 Toyota 4Runner and was shocked to find that between the covers they were identical!!

MVS here is also an awesome resource. There are many How-to's written up by people who have actually done the jobs.

And last but by no means least there is Robert Spinner's (rspi) and his P80 Youtube channel videos. A superb visual help.

If all else fails then there is the other enthusiasts (nuts?) that help on here. I have nothing but good to say about the folks here.

I wish a long and enjoyable ownership!

Neil.

Great info, Neil.
So far I'm in agreement on this board- I've been a member of this Texas dealership's board which is worldwide, very active by experienced techs, and some of the goofiest slang slinging Brits around.
