Post by FelixBLD »

Hi everyone,

I'm coming to you all get some help about my rough running 2001 Volvo V70 XC 2.4T Auto.

On Saturday, I did the PCV system with a new breather box, new hoses from the block to the box and from the box to the cylinder head, plus a new intake gasket.

The breather box was full of crud and so were the old hoses. After a thorough clean of all passages (+ cleaning the small plastic tube connected to the cooling system) and the gas vapour test with compressed air completed, I put it all back on.

The car started well and drives better (still slow) but now the idle is sometimes stable, sometimes going to 1.200 rpm for no reason and coming back down.
I also did the "glove test" once again (cold engine) after my PCV change and...it's still blows!

Does anyone have an idea of what's wrong?
My guess is that I damaged the charged air hose connected to the throttle body or maybe a vacuum leak somewhere...

I've also read about the PTC valve. Is that a pre-2000 system or does my 2001 B5244T3 engine have it?
If so, where is it and what do I need to do with it?

Thanks for your help.
Felix

The PTC is not a valve, is just a heated orfice ( or hole) that sits in the snorkel just before the turbo.

It needs to be cleaned every 80,000 km or so, maybe every 40,000 km on an older motor

The big long vacuum hose from the top of the PCV box plugs into the PTC ORFICE
