96 ABS Wiring Master Connector

Post by Clemens »

Hi! So my dreaded ABS and Tracs came on today again. I guess it is the resistance in the rotten ABS Pump to ABS Module wires. So i tried to take off the ABS main wiring loom. If I recall correctly, by lifiting the cap the wiring loom should be lifted out. Today i heard a crackibg sound and the large levering cap moved freely. I guess somethibg broke.

1) How do I get the main plug lose now that the cover doesn't lever anymore? Just pull really hard?

2) How do I get the ABS pump lose so I can solder new wires on?
Edit: maybe I should just leave the pump where it is and try to solder a new wire on while still in the car?

Thanks,
Clemens

That connector lock/lever can become brittle and break. I can't recall how I removed it when it broke off. I think it may have involve a screw driver to lever it out sideways to release it.

Thanks Neil!

This helped me. Once you opened the cap you find 2 plastic pins that need to be pushed outwards with a screwdriver.

Once they are pulled out all the way you can simply remove the connector.

Putting the connector on you need to align the pins at the bottom. They have notches that need to align with the ABS module's notches.

One question remains: Is there a way to exchange the ABS harness or the connector?

Reviving this thread of mine: since my plug cover broke off, has anyone tried replacing that connector?

Yes, and it is a major pain in the rear to get the wires released. There is risk of damaging the terminals while trying to depress the tabs on the terminal that stop them from backing out. Sourcing a connector that is not brittle and won't break from handling when you are inserting wires is going to be a challenge. Use dielectric grease or other contact lube/sealer and push connector on and then use a zip tie around the module and connector and pull it down secure but not tight. The connector does not have anything that pushes it off, the latch is to assure it doesn't walk off from vibration over time.
