The XC90 proved to be very popular, and very good for Volvo's sales numbers, since its introduction in model year 2003 (North America). P2 platform.

2011 XC90 AWD should I replace all 4 tires?

Post by rred »

For some unknown reason, the front right tire got a crack about half an inch long at the edge of the treads yesterday. It's leaking very fast. One can hear the sound of air going out. I don't think the tire is repairable because the crack is close to the sidewall.  These tires are about 15-month old. The tread depth of the front left one is about 7/32. The rear two are close to 8/32. Now my question is should I replace all 4 of them? Can I just replace one or the front two? I see people recommend replacing all 4 for AWD and that's probably the best performance. But these tires are expensive and relatively new. If possible, I'd like to save some money. Thanks for reading and for any suggestions.

No, on that model year you can replace only the two on the front axle, and keep the old one for spare

Full tread is 8/32 so one tire is probably fine

If the tread is 8/32 and tire is only 15 months old, then , a) you have close to 30,000 miles on these tires with lots of steering time, b) these were not NEW quality tires, c) poor roads it travels, or d) low tread wear rated tires. You may still be under warranty to replace all four.

Our Pirellis are 11/32 tread depth with 740 tread wear rating.
