"cap" in large rear opening on valve cover 1361451

Post by 850oldschool »

This is the cap blocking the hole which looks about the same size as the oil filler. Mine's really rusty and ugly and new ones are selling for under 6 bucks.

I searched here on the forum and couldn't turn up any stories of replacing this.

That's not easily removable, unless you somehow press it out presumably by removing the cam cover. Where are you seeing a replacement part?

It's available from all the usual OEM Volvo vendors. Maybe not worth the work, though,

You may be able to pop it out by drilling into it, then using some kind of slide hammer approach. But not trivial.

And apologies, I completely missed that you put the part number in the title. FYI - viewtopic.php?t=88367

So there used to be a video on youtube years ago of a mechanic installing one of those caps. They put it in the freezer to contract it a bit and then tapped it in with a pair of channel locks and a mallet. There also used to be a listing on ipd or fcp for a volvo "metal" glue. I dont see the glue anymore but I believe it was for this cap. I suppose that some rtv or jb weld might works but I wouldnt want any of that stuff to fall onto the cams.
