So ive had this whining noise at idle and while driving for about 3 years. Someone told me it was probably the serpentine tension pulley. So i got around to doing some repairs and this is what i have replaced. Not because of the whining, but because things were wearing out.
2004 volvo s60 2.4 (non-turbo)
Ive replaced the
alternator
Power steering pump-- 2 years ago
serpentine belt
tension pulley
map sensor
fuel pressure sensor

heard about a breatherbox noise and if you pull the dipstick or oil cap it should go away; which it never did
cant seem to pinpoint the problem but its driving me nuts.

As above, remove serp belt. My car has a similar noise coming from the timing belt, changed new genuine belt and pulleys and water pump and vvt hub and still same noise.
