P80 turbo Valves, trw vs Volvo

P80 turbo Valves, trw vs Volvo

I am thinking worst case scenarios, that I might need a valve or two when I pull the head on Sveedy. Checking prices I see a huge difference between OEM Volvo and TRW. Like $ 95. for Volvo and $ 17. for TRW. Are these something that needs to be Volvo ? I have used TRW internals on other cars with out issue but I thought I should Check.

I think the Volvo ones are sodium filled and the TRW are not. Okay for intake

For exhaust, I think you know the answer

Ford specc'ed sodium filled valves for the 427 SOHC back in 1965 ! actually I think the intakes were hollow , it said more about the state of valve spring tech than anything else though

I think a decent valve job, a proper seat cut to transfer the heat would make the sodium un-needed

Get any needed sodium-filled valve-or-two from a junkyard head, spend the money on good seals instead.

+1, only thing that changed was stem diameter, 6 vs 7 mm sometime in the conversion to RN and solid lifter period. LPT vs HPT does not matter.
Current Volvos:
1998 V70 T5, 112k sat 5 years, still in mechanical coma (finally at the top of the pile )
2004 XC90 T6 AWD: 186k, 60 on transaxle ( traded in )
1998 POS70 N/A: DD/training aid, 236k but really about 240k, I think...ABS module( passed on to son who sold it)
