I was having problems with my central locking not working correctly. Neither the button, nor the remote, would lock or unlock the left rear door, but pulling/pushing the lock manually worked fine and I could hear the module making noises. When I checked my codes, it said something was too high (I don't remember what the exact code was). So I removed the door module, lock button rod, and the rod to the outside door handle. The door module looked fine, and everything worked right when I reinstalled it.
I wasn't able to get the rod back on for the outside door handle, but with it removed my locks are now working correctly. I'm assuming the rod was connected wrong, and was causing the problems with the locking part of the module?
I would like to put the rod back in so that the door can be opened from the outside again, but I'm not sure how it goes back on. The rod seems to be bent in more places than it needs to be, but I may be wrong. Because it's bent in such an unusual way, I haven't found the right orientation for it to snap back onto the module. Also, the plastic piece that was on the rod end that connects to the door handle is broken and all that's left is a very thin, round, white piece of plastic.
Can someone that's replaced their module, or has the time to pop off their door panel, post a pic of how the rod is attached? If possible, a pic of the just the rod itself, too, so I can compare it to mine to see if it's bent and needs straightened back out?
Unrelated, possibly, but the door is stamped with P3 even though my car is a P2. Is this correct, or has my door been replaced in the past? Just curious since I have no background on the car from any of the previous owners.
Thank you in advance for the help, and assistance.

Before I took the door apart, to open the back door I had to really jerk the door handle up to get it to open. I think the rod wasn't connected right, since it looked like someone had the door panel off before (the foam was duct taped back on), so I'm assuming that was the cause of the locking mechanism not responding correctly to the button or the remote.

I just had the door off my xc70, can you post some pics? ..maybe check the other
side door and study how the rods are linked.

From a Volvo parts website, but this is what my rod looks like. I don't see how it connects, and since it wasn't on correctly to begin with I'm not sure how it reattaches.
I had assumed that the threaded part of the rod snaps into the blue clip, and I tried turning it every way I could, but I couldn't get it close enough to reattach it that way, or any other way.
I thought mine may have been bent by the last person that owned the car, but, from looking at the pic, it looks identical to mine.
I will pull the RR panel off and see if I can figure it out, when I get a chance to, and hopefully get it reattached.

I was able to reattach the rod, and the door opens and closes properly now without any problems.
However, when I had that rod disconnected the power locks worked perfectly, both with the door button and the remote, but now that the rod is back on I'm having the same problem I had before with it not wanting to lock with either option (it does lock and unlock on occasion, but it takes several attempts with the buttons).
I also noticed that when the lock is down I can pull as hard as I'm able to and it won't move up at all, but not all the time. Sometimes I can push it down, and pull it up, manually with no problems.
Could this be a problem with the outside door handle rod not being adjusted right? I don't think the module is bad since it worked just fine with that rod disconnected. Plus I can hear the module making noises while manually pushing the lock down and pulling it up.

i would say its a weak module, try taking it apart to see what the problem is, or get one from junkyard/ebay
