'05 xc70 High Beams - None
Recently purchased. I will need to do more exploration, but here goes. High beams do not operate off the stalk (they do not operate at all) Blue indicator light does come on. Does this indicate the switch is good? The PO seems to have jury rigged a wire from dashboard fuse box, very small gauge and looks burned out. It has a switch on lower dashboard marked "lights", so I assume it's purpose.. Unfortunately I gave the wire a yank without removing the under dash shroud, trying to see if it went through firewall so I could follow it. It did not. This pulled it loose and I have yet to find where it was connected. In any case, while it was connected, it didn't seem to operate the high beams. So, before I go further is no high beams a common malady? Does the blue indictor light indicate the stalk switch is good? My knowledge of electronics approaches nil.

Relying on the idea that the headlight relay would be under the dash (a diagram found online) I began to pull things apart. Getting the lower dash panel off I didn't find what I expected, no relay. I also wanted to to see where the jury rigged wiring went. I have included a few pictures of the jury rig, hoping someone more familiar than I will recognize the issue. Unfortunately I pulled one of the wires loose, it is shown near one that leads to a 10 fuse, I have no idea of it's original location. The wire from the 30 fuse leads to the switch, supplying power I assume, the two other wires shown come from the switch. Can anyone direct me to a listing of the under dash fuses? Where is the high beam relay, is that in the under hood fuse box?

I have just found a diagram for the under dash fuse panel (in the manual of all places). Am I correct in assuming that if I supply 12v + to the high beam fuse and get a high beam light, that the problem is upstream, probably the switch?

wow, scary wiring. To test the switch you need to google the wiring diagram for you car. If you dont have a multi-meter, buy one and test the wiring from the headlights back..again the wiring diagram comes in handy.
RH high beam 10/64 to high beam relay 2/63 should be under bonnet fuse box

3/3111 is the light switch module, not 100% sure this is the stalk switch or the knob switch

Thank you. But the pictures I posted seem make it obvious that there was an attempt to bring power to the high beam fuses under the dash. Makes me assume problem is "North" of the fuses, making the switch seem likely. Of course, I don't know that the "jury rig" worked, or not.

I think the2005 diagram is different than the 2002? Pictured.
On a2005 the fuse is way upstream, the light switch module 3/111 sends a can bus message to the CEM saying please turn the headlights on
High beam request comes from the steering wheel module 3/254
Scour the webs for the 2005 electrical diagram
It looks like someone has bypassed the CEM with low gauge wire, that needs to be removed post haste before it catches fire

When I locate a working multimeter I will try cleaning the contacts in the switch. Unfortunately, eBay indicates the stalk is 2005-2006 only. So the working unit on on my '04 V70 parts car won't help.
