Hey all,
Need some expert help. I have a 97 854R with almost brand new front seats...the car is getting scrapped. I have a DD 99 875 that has the dreaded trashed front seats..
Question: ...Can I swap the 97 850R front seats into the 99 V70?
I know the side impact airbag is different between the two and am considering just swapping out the upper and lower cushions/seat backs..be nice to have seat heat in the V70 also. Can that be done ?Thanks for any help you can provide me...sure would hate to lose the seats to the Junk Yard.

The seats may physically fit as they are similar. The issues are how the seats and airbags operate as your other car is a 99. 98 it would be easier as they are I think the same as a 850. A 98 V/S70 seat can be adapted to work with a 99- with some wiring changes with the exception of the airbag operation. The way the airbag system works without finding a way to bypass the 99- seat airbag sensor the whole airbag system will not work.
The issue would be your airbag system as they work differently. -98 work with a mechanical operation and the 99- are electrically operated.
Now if you were to swap the seat foam and the covers over that may work. The -98 heated seats also work differently to 99-. But if I recall one can be adapted to the other. It is mostly to do with where the wires fit to the seat foams.
Hopefully there is someone here that can confirm this or who may have done it. I do also believe that the wiring is already in cars without heated seats but to be honest in Canada I have never seen a Volvo without heated seats!

Moving the skins over will be the easy way to do this. I don’t know about the heater part

Thanks for the replies....
I live in FLA so I can live without the heated seats.
looks like I will be swapping over the skins as I would rather not mess with the airbag boondoggle.
Thanks again,
Stan

The heated seats should also be transferable. You will need to swap over the seat foam with the heater elements. Check first that the heater element wiring is still good. The connectors are in the middle of the seat foam in a hollow section on the underside. They are prone to breaking off or the wires themselves breaking. The later design prevented this.
