850 -remfg starter not quite fitting in bracket

Post by Turbolena »

Has anyone else experienced a re-manufactured Bosch stater for the 850 not quite making to the left side bracket attachment when the pin and right hand bolts are attached? Should I shim with washers? Or not even bother with the bracket attachment?

Discussed in Tinas awesome starter replacement thread from 2009!

There is a right side bracket that Volvo discontinued, which you can remove. If you really want to torture yourself installing it, it goes onto the removed starter first, the starter is mounted , the m8 bolt started, the two m10 x40 bolts started, then everything get tightened.

There are 2 different brackets as there are 2 starter case lengths.

Did the part get removed for the p80 frame thought, it seemed like it was for the p2 models. I have the job done except that if I torque that I can't get the starter snug with the bracket on the passenger side attached.

All P80's I have worked on have one of the 2 end case brackets. They both mount to the same holes.

I’m now running four P80s without the bracket.

5 year update, still running lots of p80 sans bracket.

If you remove it, make sure you counterhold the bolts so you don’t unscrew your starter case.
