Good day all,

I need to replace a cam seal that was installed incorrectly on my end, on the sprocket side. 2002 volvo xc

I'm going to replace all 3 while I'm have the timing cover already lifted. But I'm getting myself confused when selecting the seals- I replaced the head gasket a few months ago with a gasket kit but I'm not going that far with this repair and I cannot find a cam seal set. The sprocket side: front intake seal, rear exhaust with vvt seal and rear cam seal for the right side. Am I reading the descriptions incorrectly or is there something I am missing? Is the sprocket side considered front?

Thanks for any help!

Front of the engine is toward the crank pulley, so sprocket side is front

You don’t get a seal on a VVT hub, the oring inthe hub contains the oil

The rear of a non VVT hub gets a plug which is a flat piece of plastic , too

Just for clarification, the VVT hub on the exhaust cam does have an 0-ring on its inner bore which is intended to seal "around" the end of the exhaust camshaft. I've tried a couple of the eBay "guaranteed to fit" VVT o-ring replacements and haven't had success. I'm just saying, that in some cases, the VVT will need to be replaced to solve the leak.

There is a non-service-able o-ring within the VVT hub that degrades over time resulting in a leak that can be hard to pinpoint. Jimmy57 had a nice cut-away photo in a thread a while back. viewtopic.php?t=81207

There is also an oil seal that gets pressed into the cylinder head. You may need to plug in your VIN to verify, but here's a search to give you some ideas.
