Hey Kids!
I've seen lots of timing belt info threads/videos lately but none so far have instilled me with the confidence of a thousand Mark Marquezes.
This weekend I'm either doing the timing belt (serp, pulleys , wp etc) or the brakes (flush, soft lines, ft rotors/pads) and I'd be grateful for any info/links/direction from those of you who have actually completed the timing belt service yourselves.
I think my issue is that I haven't seen a video/read a how-to yet on MY car, the 2004 XC70. I realize the P2 2.5 terbs are similar if not the same but I don't know which models have my engine (indifferent to anything not a 70). I also side eye timing repairs like two rival cats in an alley because I once effed one up (I did win in the sequel).
Please and thank you,
Starbuck

Ben would like a Aisin water pump, INA tensioner and idler , and a Conti timing belt. Ben also warns you that anything URO is creepier than guys with car covers for their car covers.
Cars Ike your 2004 have variable valve timing on one/ both cams. When you set up the timing, the marks have to be brought in turning the engine backwards, not forwards. The official procedure is the turn past the mark 1/4 turn, then go back to it.

Thanks Abscate! Ben got the Aisin/Conti kit from FCP, because I listened to you guys about brands.
That sounds daunting... Do I really need a cam gear holder tool? I'm not doing this until I feel confident about it because I don't want to break Ben and you guys don't want to read another 12 pages about me searching for Ben II.

The worst part if you break Ben Him is we will have to watch Ben Hur.
You don’t need the cam lock tool unless you are removing VVT hubs, which you don’t need to do for timing belt.
If you lift your cover plates, you can tell us if you have one or two VVT HUBS by the number of solenoids you see

BAHAHAHA.
I am not removing the hubs. I'll look at them to see if anything is leaking but I'm going to let that sleeping dragon lie.
I won't have tools until tomorrow as my garage is in a separate location so no T30. Sadface. Eventually I'll make a Ben tool kit to keep with him but that hasn't happened yet.

Good video. Great detail on the mechanical adjuster, about half the cars I’ve worked on don’t have this right
He needs to work on his shoulder and lat reps though, looks a little weak.
Beth,,,if yo u3atch this be nicely calls off the tools as you use them
Love the wrench on The SERP,belt tensioner, nice trick

Serp belt is easy, one person lies on the floor and guides the belt on the lower pulleys, a second person does the tensioner wrench and the 3rd person puts it on the steering pulley. Just like the pro's.
