You need to be using a TORX driver or bit for that fastener. Hex/Allen keys will round it out.

Ditto on using the properly fitting torx bit. Another thing that can help is to take a small punch - small enough to fit down into the bottom of the torx hole - and give it a couple of good raps with a hammer. What that does is slightly push the screw shank downward, in relation to the head, and relieves some of the load on the threads.

Recently managed to mangle 3 long Philip head bolts on a motor bicycle tranny case.
Got all 3 easily, even with mangled heads using air hammer fitted with a "shake and break."

Make sure your using the right torx bit and a good quality one that fits well w/o too much play. Then plenty of penetrating oil. Get a 12" 3/8 in extension and tap it with a hammer. Vibrations should help it and also help to seat the torx bit into the screw. Should come out but good your being careful to strip.

Increasing escalation of battle....
15 seconds with propane torch to heat it up
A non harbor freight Torx bit, brand new.
Vice grip, needle nose style
Dremel and off with its head

using heat is a good idea, but be careful of a fire especially if using petrol based penetrating oil. best try it when engine is hot.
