So I recently acquired a 1999 V70 T5 from a buddy for $300. It's a high mileage car but seems to have been looked after fairly well. I was under hood replacing the starter and noticed this little hose and what appears to be either a filter or some kind of check valve just lying on the fan shroud. Can anyone help with identifying it?
Thanks in advance.

Look for a solenoid under the fan shroud with an open nipple. Its either an SAS solenoid vacuum line or a purge vacuum line.
Unless the PO capped off the other end , you will have a vacuum leak and unmetered air which will make for poor running.

Bingo! If I'd have looked a bit more carefully at the vacuum tree I would have found it. I've got about 5 projects going on at once on this car so I've been kinda scatterbrained.
