P80 -1998 developing coil failure 1275174

I’ve been reworking a 1998 NA and ready for its return home to VT.

Last few days, I noticed a slight stumble at idle every 5 minutes or so, maybe a 100-200 rpm drop

Today, a badmisfire above 2000 rpm. Luckily, it does it in the driveway without a load. Idle is smooth, but once revs go up to 2000 or more it’s tough.

I checked distributor cap for oil and gunk and th n swapped in a parts coil , and Earl the 1998 purred and drove smoothly thereafter.

Old coil had about 230k on it
Primary 10 ohms
Secondary 10k ohms

Great catch! Must be intuitive to an old 'salt' like you by now. Does this mean Earl is heading back home? What a great person you are to get the car back up and running so well. Big 'PAT' on the back from up here!

You know they may not be particularly powerful, but the NA's are beginning to grow on me for there generally robust and much easier maintenance. They also seem to attract a more caring owner through their lives.

After the thrashing it gave me in distributor timing, this one felt good.

Aw, thanks Guys. Ive had so much paid forward to me in life, Ill have to live a long time to repay the karmic bucket.
