Jumped in my 2005 XC 90 with 190,xxx mi. Key would not turn after position one. It would unlock the steering wheel, but that's it. Did some reading and this is a common issue amoung some volvos. I initially thought (and hoped) it was caused by the steering lock paw that broke off and prevented movement (there is a quick, permanent fix for this). Not so lucky. I put copious amounts of graphite into the ignition mechanism and a few hours later I got it to move. I have put additional graphite into the lock and ran it back and forth a few times. Its still sticky, but it is working.
The question is for others who have dealt with this, have I for the most part solved the issue or will I eventually need to get it replaced?
Ignition not moving past 1 resolution?

An old trick is to remove the bottom plate before you get stranded.
I did this yrs ago, and it has been trouble-free since....
