2000 C70 HPT Random no start (merged topic)

Well we got the new top installed, have not been able to put the weather stripping on though because I recently found out I have spinal stenosis which was caused by my scoliosis which was caused from trauma from a helicopter crash back in 93 and it's to the point I have bad pinched nerve pain, Doctor said they do not know how I have been standing much less walking working on cars, I guess it has caught up with me now that i'm pushing 50 in a couple years so I can not finish my projects now, stuck laying in a recliner all day, it's been like this past 2 months on and off. Anyway, it's taken me this long to come back because of it but I know I am not able to fix my current issue but wanted some advice.
Once in a while when I get in the car it will not start or even try to turn over, when it does this I can always get it to start by pushing and holding the reset knob in on instrument cluster and then turn key on, after check engine light flashes 3 times I then release reset knob and turn key off then back on and start it and it works every time. Also when the car does this sometimes after i reset and get it started for the first several seconds the engine will Rev up by itself to 2000k or 2500k then settling down to the normal idle of around 800 rpm but when the idle settles down it holds at normal idle at 800 but it sounds rough at the back end coming out the muffler like its spitting and sputtering and not sure if it's condensation or what but it has moisture or water drops coming out the exhaust end. I am not losing coolant that I can tell, operating temp seems normal. It only does this once in a while and will always start and run once I reset it but then when I try and drive it when this is going on it is boggy and the exhaust it sputtering. I can give a list of what has been done basically all at once to the car but would be a long list.

No one ever had anything like this happen? I am not able to fix it now but was hoping someone would have an idea at least. Sometimes I guess its just one of those things that is a rarity that know one understands, hopefully after I am on my feet again I will figure it out. I hope everyone here has a wonderful Thanksgiving Holiday.

That sounds like an ignition switch , electrical part failure. When they get flaky all kinds of weird things happen with ME7

When your car won’t crank, diagnose by fault tracing backwards from the starter terminal small wire to find where the voltage break occurs.

Or, you can fire the parts cannon for $50 or so for a new one

I have a weird issue that happens on occasion, more frequent than not. Usually when it happens, the traction control light comes on as well.
It idles at 800 rpm just like it does when it is running as it should but you can hear back at the muffler a rough sputtering sound but the idle does not fluctuate up and down on the tach, it holds at 800 rpm. Before when I would go to start it all the dash warning lights would come on for a few seconds like they always do then go out, now the ETS light which is related to the Electronic Throttle Module, throttle body does not light up when the ignition is turned on, it takes as long as a minute before it will light up, if it lights up at all. Sometimes I turn the ignition off and on a few times to get the ETS light to light up like it is supposed to. Anyone have any ideas, I feel a bit lost on what to do next aside from calling Xemodex and having them do a remote diagnostic scan. I would guess it is the throttle module/throttle body but when I run the VIDA DICE on the car it shows both potentiometers are in really close sync with each other, I don't know what to do next. Please help with thoughts anyone.

I was wondering abscate if that could possibly be the culprit. I made a new topic today, did not see your reply until after, it is basically the same thing but has gotten more frequent. Not sure why the ignition would cause the rough idle though. thanks

Does anyone else think this could possibly be an ignition switch issue, I found only one OEM one on eBay for $87.00 and it's just the electrical plug part.

Shows this part is for chassis # 1686, where is this number found and how do I know if it applies to the C70

I don't have helpful comments on the diagnosis but would note:

- It's basically always the electrical part with this kind of ignition switch problem, if the ignition switch is the issue then you have the right part
- that part is $70.00 from FCPEuro https://www.fcpeuro.com/products/volvo- ... 54#fitment
