Yakazi instrument cluster: clock and temp gone Topic is solved

UPDATE: I thought I had a Yakazi in there, but after pulling it today it turns out I have a VDO unit. Maybe all Turbos had VDO units?

So today, while driving, suddenly my clock and temp gauge disappeared. the slot is still illuminated, but the digits are gone. Everything else works fine.
It's in my 94 T5M with the Yakazi cluster with just clock and remp gauge, nothing else.

Anyone any ideas?

Check the back of the board. My guess is one of the following:
A bad capacitor
A bad diode
A bad 5v or 12v voltage regulator on the cluster.

Okay. So that sounds not so good.
I am not very into electronics, so I might just add a digital aftermarket gauge. Let's see...

If you can find the break it's likely easy to fix. I've taught 8 year olds to solder in 5 minutes flat.

Thanks for the offer, but I kinda know how to solder. I've fixed my ABS module and my houses's heating system soldering a new cap into the main board, I just hate troubleshooting electronics. But if I get lucky I can see the burnt cap or diode. No clue about the regulator, though

One more thing: is it possible to swap a VDO gauge into my wagon if I originally had a Yakazi?

I sadly don't know the details of the inner workings well enough to give an answer on that. Someone better versed in it may be able to give a more definitive answer.

I might pull the cluster tomorrow and see if something is visible... I just hate to pull instrument clusters. The dash pads never seem to improve from that job...

Yazaki and VDO are not interchangeable according to MVS members.
Don't see the reason why....since Yazaki from s,v,c,xc70 up to '99 is fully interchangeable with '96 & '97 850.

You have OBDI diagnostic ports under the hood.
Read the codes for the cluster.

If you want to try a VDO,you will need the one UP TO '95.

You checked the fuses...right?
The other thing would be connectors on the cluster.

Thanks, Misha. I checked the fuse (#35), it is okay.
I will check the connectors to the cluster.
I didn't know the cluster is OBD I diagnosable. Will try to read codes first before pulling it.
