S 80 99 Installing bigger battery?

Everything on the Volvo S80. Sometimes called an "executive car", the S80 was Volvo's top-of-the-line passenger car. P2 platform.

S 80 99 Installing bigger battery?

Post by Volvo S80 »

Hi to all,

On my fathers 99 S80 with 2.4 petrol engine I need to replace the battery.

Since he uses the car rarely, I am wondering if I can install a bigger batter for example 80Ah with 750A. The factory one is 70Ah with 640A.

Has anyone done this before?

Thanks

Yes I did! Without any adverse effects off course. Make sure that you connect the pipes which vent to the outside!

As above, it's very doable, however I doubt it would help much for the scenario of infrequent driving. If you compare, 80Ah vs 70Ah makes it only about 15% more long lasting which is of no help if there is a current drain that causes a battery drain after 1 week or so. Batteries also don't like being discharged often times. Rather, may want to disconnect the battery when the car is not being used, you may try installing a battery switch however the space is limited by the trunk cover and you will also need to lock the doors with the fob and unlock the trunk with the mechanical fob as well and also a good idea to have the key in POS II and headlights on when reconnecting it

If the car is parked by his home, I think the best would be to install a trickle charger which will keep the battery topped
