Foglight HID Retrofit: 98 V70 NA

Post by yanga001 »

Hi Everyone,

I picked up a few things for this retrofit a long while ago but didnt find the time to do it until now.

Anyways, long story short, i installed some projector lenses into the OEM foglight housings as i like there feel and mounting on the car. To do this, i took some bad reflector housings, and sanded out their interiors until the lenses would press fit in. Then i reattached the reflectors to the headlights, and ziptied them down to ensure they would not fall out. I had to add extra zipties to aim the lights but i am happy with the overall result.

I believe they could be far brighter with better ballasts and lights, but that is a test for another day. I am going to car wash the wagon today so ill see if moisture will kill these cheap ballasts.

EDIT: Will upload the photos when the website backend is fixed

The lights are not as powerful as normal low beams, however they perfectly light up lane markers which is very helpful given how dull the road paint can be up here.

Interesting idea. The projector seems more watertight than the units which goes into the headlight assembly. Can you provide a link to those? Thanks.

Picked them up on a website called aliexpress, attached a link.

they were like 60$ i believe although cheaper ones should be emerging

ebay has a few models, 2.5" will fit into the old lense holders if you sand it down as i did.

That’s a really nice job.
I’ve been keeping my eyes open for years
for a set of projector modules for some narrow
beam pin spots. I used to run 10 degree landing
lights on some of my older rigs and I really miss
2,000’ yard ditch lights on long, dark stretches.

You have re-inspired me and I salute you! 👍

Conclusion to the saga:

So i was not that happy with the overall lighting output of the system. I modified the projectors to enable their high beam modes. I tested them on the road and using my own judgement at varying distances and found them to be equally as bright as my normal low beams. No one has flashed me, and i do not light up the interiors of every sedan in front of me so i take that as a victory. @BEHinFBK inspired me to improve the output as my entire goal was to have effective lighting in foggy conditions.

You might be able to add Halos / Angel Eyes as Day Time Running Lights with the fog lights. Just wire it in with the parking lights and thin double sided tape and or hot glue to the front of the lens assembly. We installed these in front of the Bi-Xenon Projector Lens.
