I have a 2004 V70 with 118K miles, well-maintained.

One day, engine stumbles, difficult to maintain idle at 700 rpm.
CEL is on...

Codes: P0343 (Cam sensor), P0300, P0302 (misfire #2 cylinder),  P0304 (misfire #4 cylinder), P0202 (#2 fuel injector circuit), P0202 (#4 fuel injector circuit)...

As it turned out, the squirrels or some rodents chewed the ground wires, and some other wires.
Fixed the ground (and other) wires, engine is back to normal.

I am posting this in case others find it useful...

Read someplace long ago that problem took off when the industry started using soybean based coatings on the plastic insulation. Before that it was still a problem. Chewing hard objects is part of their dental plan. Grinds down fast growing teeth and sharps the edge.

Keeping the Wire conduct in good condition will help. The Wire conduct is too big for their mouth and they would need to work through the Wire conduct to get to the wires.

Does anyone here have any thoughts on how to prevent squirrels/rodents from chewing the wires?

- Squirrel Trap (and release squirrels a few miles away)?

- Mothballs?

- Red Pepper Spray?

Peppermint oil and Pine-Sol are deterrents. You can get premixed Peppermint oil solutions that spray on the wiring. Such as Natural Armor's Rodent Defense You can find the stuff on at Walmart, eBay Amazon .
