Hi. Hello
Regarding 1998, V70-T5, the 240ps version, automatic transmission
How strong are the rods and pistons? Are they forged from factory?
After do top overhaul and fresh stage 0 service, with 16T, white injectors (350cc i guess) , with a remap, could it hold 300bhp safely (bhp at engine, not at wheel) ?
16T can max safely to what bhp and boost ? What is cfm value for 16T ?
is it true 19T is known for con rods bend? if true, what factor people call 19T as rod bender? is it because of very fast spool?
any suggestions of other turbos for 300bhp? 18T , 19T, 20T or K24 ?
Thanks bros

The 19 Ts are known as rod benders because they spool up too fast. An 18T might be ideal, but less availabke than a 19T.
The AT is the weakest link of your setup, beyond 300 hp they don't last a long time. At least put a large tranny oil cooler on your car.
With a good tune, the rods and pistons should bebgood till 400 hp, I think, but you need a good tuner. Since Lucky from ARD seens to be out of business, Aaronnfrom Va5t seens to be the kast man standung. He is known as tightmopedman on forums, if I recall correctly.
There are excellent readups on Volvospeed and here in the fast friday archives.
Most of the fast car guys have left the scene, it's down to us preservers on the constant quest for stage zero. That, of course, we will never achieve.

Increased boost pressure is not so dangerous for rods, as an EARLY boost engaging. ECU controlling boost depending of rpm and throttle angle. Just look at those two boost maps. 1st is stock, M4.3, 225 bhp. 2nd is tuned, 300 bhp declared. I've tested it. Runs much better than stock, but I didn't feel those 300 horses. 250-260, maybe. Rods will loaded much more when engine will work with this tuned map.
The most destructive factor for pistons is knock. And overboost is one of the reasons for knock, as well as excessed temperature, low octane fuel, increased compression ratio and others.
If my English is bad, please correct me

I'm surprised that a 19T is considered a fast spool up. I have one on my 00 V70R and I need to put a stopwatch on the spool up. My 13G spooled up way faster but just ran out of puff at the top end. That is where the 19T comes in. Once spooled up the 19T does spool up quicker.
My Rica 'tune' allegedly puts out 310 bhp at the flywheel and 300 ft/lb of torque. Again I don't really feel it.
The auto trans is supposedly good to around 320 bhp.

Maybe fast spool up is incorrect, sorry bout that. I think it has too much boost too early because of it's bigger size. Also, the spool up time of the 19T (as with the other Turbos) is greatly improved by a free flowing exhaust. If you still have the stock exhaust this will probably make it spool slower. Once I replaced the stock exhaust on my 96 R with a TME exhaust, the 15G started to come to life earlier as well.scot850 wrote: ↑16 May 2021, 09:01 I'm surprised that a 19T is considered a fast spool up. My man Beetle with the 180 HP has a Garrett turbo that spools much faster than my Volvo’s, always wondered why

Very new to this I’m heavy into drifting and that sport takes up most my time as have 1000 plus hp 240sx but a couple of my friends wanted to start doing trail riding and stuff and we all decided wagons so I found a 06xc70 2.5t for 400$ and this thing is such a blast I just ordered a 19t turbo to toss on it for just fun but idk if I just can’t internet right or what but I can not for the life of me find a easy running solution Iv glanced off so much stuff an most the stuff is so outdated and I can’t find it any more any pointer on how to get a tune for a stock motor just going to 19t I can go bigger injectors too if I need to just cause I have some laying around thank you

Tune is not cheap for the P2 platform (like your 06) and you get nothing from a bigger turbo without a tune. You'll probably need bigger exhaust. Contact these guys they sell a ton of P2 tunes https://hiltontuning.com/product/volvo-tuning/
