So, both front shocks on the blue beauty are leaking. It is harsh over bumps and lower in stance than usual. Mechanic recommends replacement of front struts and springs and I agree with him at 235 K miles on what I believe are the originals.

Here's the thing. With this degraded front strut performance, I am not getting any DIM message about suspension service needed. Is the lack of such a message under the circumstances diagnostic of a blown suspension control module (for another $1 k in parts in the mix?)

They’ll still “work” for a while, even after most of the oil has been evacuated. Chances are the module is ok if you can still switch modes. I dunno, 235k is a LOT for originals. If you haven’t owned it that entire span of miles I would be more than apt to guess that these are not the originals. Can you still switch between all 3 modes?

You could save some money & switch the shocks yourself. It’s not too bad a job, just gotta be positive you have your 4C wires routed correctly. If not the spinning CV shafts can wear right through them. Other than that, the job is no different than changing spring seats, you’re just swapping the shock absorber also.

The other alternative is to put in a non-adjustable shock like a lot of the “high performance” guys do. The cost is about the same and you are basically stuck in “sport” or “advanced” mode all the time.

Edit: They (Monroe) run the P2 4C R shocks in batches based on demand. Eventually, production will cease completely I am sure.

Yeah, that is a disappointing. It's like we have to guess and stock up or do a last round of replacement just before the end. Or sell the car at that time!

Pretty much, hard to believe how simple a change can result in such a dramatic handling difference. My least favorite YouTube channel did a “tear down” of a 4C shock & actually explained it alright.
