850 rear seatbelts failed

Post by manovlov »

Hy Buddies,

I didn't post any question for a long time, let me see if i still get the hand...

Recently, i had to bend my rear seats. Everything was fine, but when i wanted to put it on the seat position it's was impossible for the single part because the seat belt was "stretched". Impossible to bring the seat to its right position. I have the single one from my V70. So , it was a mess to extract the signle seat but at the end, it worked. The back seat was full of orange stuff which get in "power" as i could see.

A couple of day ago, same experience, but this time, it was the 2/3 part that played me the same trick. I have the 2/3 part from my donor, but i would like to know if there is a way to repair this issue. The donor is "Beige", my interior is blue... It may be possible to change the seat enveloppe, i kept the original part.

Hi Manov, can you post any pictures to help me visualize the problem. Can't understand how this can happen.

Thanks,

Neil.

Hy Neil,

Here is the picture. You can see how far i'm able to bring back the back seat to its normal position.

Hi Manov,

That is weird. Never see or hear of that before. What is that behind the seat? Is that something broken off?

Have you tried removing the front seat belt mount to allow the seat to return to normal position and then see if the seatbelt will then feed out to allow you to re-attach it?

Neil.

Hello Neil,

When i unscrewed the old 1/3, the bolt of the seat belt was free, the belt came into the back seat and was blocked. Impossible toi get it out. I suppose this car may have been laid near the north see (this car comes from netherland) and the stuff in the back seat may have been touch by the wet...

Been there, had fun :|
Not sure if you did that, but as you said, you need to remove the belt anchor bolt and then when the seat is upright try to ge the belt out again. The problem for me was that the small plastic rivet-stops that are in the belt got lost which allowed it to retract too much. when you replace them (with something, if not the original rivets) it should be ok again.
If you let the belt go all in, then I do not know how you would get it out again... might need to replace it.

Excellent ! The thing i had in mind was to replace the leather from the original seats (blue) and put it on the "newers seats". I will open the seat anyway, i will find the issue. Thanks much for your reply !

I had that happen too. The seat belts are designed to lock in a rollover, which the seatbelts think is happening when folded, you need to unbolt the lower mount, hold the seatbelt out so it doesn't retract, put seats in normal position, then retract belt a bit, then try to pull out. You need the seatbelt mechanism in normal position, then retract the belt to unlock the lock. Then bolt back in.
