I had my battery replaced yesterday because car would not start. Installed at autozone. Now my cruise control is not working. The "cruise" indicator comes on but will not lock on a speed. Any tips? Is there a battery reset procedure I should do?
Also, I am at 174k miles, and my timing belt is 72k miles and 8 years old. I know the interval is 10 years /105k but I have heard it is good to replace it a bit early. Am I getting to that point?

No reason to accelerate the Volvo schedule. It is very conservative with respect to MTBF
VOLVO actually has a replacement interval of 150k on the exact same parts doending in what state you live in
Your cruise will come back after the ECU re adapts from the reset, induced by the battery removal. Give it 100 miles or so.
