V70 Tailgate Lock, Key Mechanism

Post by Riptide58 »

I'm installing a replacement tailgate from an other V70 and am looking for information on how to remove and reinstall the key mechanism for the door lock. Does anyone have any guidance?

Thanks, Bill

I'd love to know how you have a key mechanism at all in your V70. I've had two 2000 V70 and both had no key lock in the tailgate. It would save me a notable amount of time to be able to unlock just the trunk instead of doing so from inside the front door. Can I add one??

It looks doable. The hole is blocked off with a removable cap

Don’t forget. It’s not just a mechanical adder.
There’s an Arm/Disarm switch associated with
that lock to consider.

The key is pure mechanical. Just the key and a plunger rod would be all that’s needed

I’m talking about operationally.
You have an armed security system
and the hatch opens, it goes off.
It becomes a fob AND key thing.
Kind of a PITA.

If you want to use the mechanical key and can't get the electric lock working, you can cut the wire to the lock position sensor. This will prevent the constant warning that the hatch is open. It will not prevent the alarm from sounding if you open the hatch using the key while the rest of car alarm is set. At least this is how my 2001 V70 works.

My hatch electric lock actuator died years ago and I have not found the correct replacement. IPD source recommends wrong actuator for my car.
