I have a '01 S60 and the check engine light came on followed by the message Emmission Service Required. Does anyone know what the cause might be I don't want to have to pay $150 for the dealership to pull the code to tell what the problem may be. And 4 days later when I start the car the message doesnt appear.
Any suggestions are encouraged.[/b]

Did you ever figure this out? My car also is lighting up the Emission Message and the Icon of the Orange Engine. It use to come on occasionally but now it is on most of the time and only occassionaly not on. Any ideas? Thanks Pepo

My check engine light came on again this time with no code. When I took my car in to correct the problem they said it had a right side bank lean but the repairman did not know what that meant however he got the light to go off. Can anyone tell me what that means and what to do?
The check engine is different the the emissions one. It can come on at predetermined intervals. With the car off press and hold the tripometer reset and then move the ignition to position 2. After a moment the check engine will come on and flash then go off. Release the tripometer reset and turn off the ignition and remove key. That worked for me. Does anyone have any idea about the "emission system needs interval message"? Thanks...Pepo

Don't worry aboout him, he has it all ass backwards,ShaMor wrote:Pepo, are you sure this works for the Check Engine Light, this sounds like what they do to reset the Service light?
I'm confused???
Yes, you are right
I tried pulling a 5 amp fuse (found that in the c70 forum) did not work. Right now I am trying the STP trick. My mechanic reset it and it lasted less than 24 hrs and came back on. My wife is really getting mad.
The mechanic feels it is the O2 sensor. How many do they have? maybe the STP will clean it. (at least that was the theory in the c70 forum). Hey thanks alot guys for your support.

You can't reset the check engine light by using the speedometer. However my mechanic did get the light to go off and you are right, mine lasted less than 4 hours and it was back on. It is coming up with a code that says right bank lean, ok what the heck is this about????
My mechanic said it could be a vacuum leak or oxygen sensors...well there was no vacuum leak so I'm to assume it would be the oxygen sensors? Now does anyone know how many of these darned things my car has. I have a 2001 S60.
Boy do I miss my BMW I never had these problems!!!!!

LEAN or LEAK: Mechanic says lean so why are you saying vacuum leak. The right bank is lean sounds as if the right bank of fuel injectors are coming up LEAN. If so, clean the system (Can of cleaner)so the pump is included or clean (or change) each injector on that bank. Explore this angle.
