Welp, it's time. The old girl has served me very well for over a decade but a clogged PCV return flow caused her to spit all of her oil out into the engine bay on the highway at 70 MPH, ultimately resulting in a blown head gasket.
I've already done the HG once and I ain't doing it again! On top of that, the tranny is having intermittent shifting issues so it looks like it's time for her to be sent out to pasture. On top of the top of that, the sticky tranny is one I pulled out of a twin with a blown head gasket about five years ago. I have zero interest in doing another dual swap for the remainder of my life!
I already have boxes of spare parts that I rescued from the aforementioned twin before I sent her off for scrap metal. I saved them in case I should ever need them but now that the wagon is done for I have multiples of useless (to me) parts.
Seems to me there is still a large, die-hard fan base for these sleds and I'm a big fan of the organ donation program. I already sell some stuff on FleaBay so that's not a big deal for me.
I love these cars and I want to do my part to keep them on the road. I guess my question is, is it worth the time and trouble, even though it's less time and trouble for me than it might be for someone else (as I could probably disassemble and reassemble the entire engine bay in my sleep)?
Is the classified at MVS the best place? Seems like the true die-hards all gather here, after all...
Attached image is actually an 850, before I upgraded to V70. It's just to illustrate that this marks the end of a long era with bricks.
Putting out feelers on whether or not to part out my 98 V70XC wagon

Going even farther back (since I'm feeling a bit wistful ATM), Here's my now-16-year-old son sitting on the first Volvo in the family, a 240, awaiting the arrival of his B-day party guests:
And same son driving the now defunct V70:

Classified area here and other forums would be good.
If you use Facebook, post in the "Volvo Parts/Cars For Sale/Wanted" as well as "Volvospeed for Sale Ads" groups. FB groups will get you a lot more visibility for selling parts, though I'd wager there are far more losers you may have to deal with compared for the forums. Still, if you're trying to maximize the part out, social media is your friend.
Sorry about the wagon though. It will help others continue on!

I’ve had good luck here parting out but to be fair all my body parts were sold locally off board contact.
I use $25 an hour to value my time when removing , packing, and shipping stuff- mostly to have a quick answer for MRS Abscate when she asks me how much time I have in it
I’m lucky enough to have a 10 minute local scrapper who gives me $200 for the carcass. Even more with a hot water tank attached
