I had just left walmart, with carpet cleaner, tire cleaner, polish and wax. Heading home, I decided to take the longer way home for some reason.
It was a pretty hilly road, but one I've driven a lot over the last two year.
Sadly we had just had a little summer shower lasting 15 minutes.
I went up one small hill, and as I came down, I slipped.
I regret it, but I panicked. I didn't want to hit the car in front of me, and hit the break instinctively and spun into the side road / little tree.
I knew the radiator and intercooler cracked, and in my head I convinced myself, I could learn a lot by attempting to restore and get my back back on the road, to the 300,000 mile dream I always said I would hit with it.
Anyway, after 9 months of sitting covered in my driveway, while I worked on bringing my new 94 850 up to date, I went back to take a look at my beloved 940 last week and see exactly how much work I was in for.
anyway, yeah.. I now feel no hope that it's something I could take care of myself. There's a lot of front end damage, that I wouldn't know where to start.
I went to several collision places yesterday, all telling me it's too old for their systems, or they cant find parts, etc.
I did an online quote with pictures for a company that sent me a detailed itemized list of fixing everything, on the low end, they stated 8,000.
This quote included many parts that I removed for the best quality pictures, but still I always knew it would probably be a lot regardless.
I did email them asking for a second quote on just repairing the frame and nothing else, but I'd expect that to be significant either way when it comes.
Anyway,
TL;DR
It's a very sad decision I think I'll have to make.
I believe I'll have to call a generic junk place that will offer $300 no matter what kind of car or condition.
But if I have to junk the car, what should I make sure to take out and keep beforehand?
either for selling individually or for keeping as a spare my next 940 / 760?
( I did have the head-gasket rebuilt just a month before hand, and the engine has ~160k on it without any issues. However, I don't think I'd be capable of removing that or storing it myself. )
thanks in adv for thoughts and suggestions
