Yeah
I have this code. Can't pass emissions with it.
I hear it's a female Dogg to fix this thing.
Any ideas?
I have started the car and let it idle and warmup for 20 mins with out moving the car or revving the motor.
Still have this code.
Help?
Thanks!
Big Al

Plenty of threads on the subject. Typically the SAS pump motors seize due to the valve on the exhaust manifold failing allowing moisture to drain into the pump which has no drain hole in it. This eventually rusts the internals solid. You can try removing the the SAS pump (under the battery tray) and try to drill a hole (1/8" in the lowest part of the casing when mounted normally in the car.
Likely you will find the motor is toast.
There is a bypass for this but can't recall if the pump must be in place for areas where emissions are tested.
If you replace the pump (there used to be a guy selling re-built units years ago on Ebay) make sure you replace the valve as well or it will fail again fairly quickly. The bypass requires a diode to placed in the wiring circuit.
Neil.

Ok cool. Let's try the bypass first.... I will do a search.
If anyone has a link, that would be helpful.
Thanks!

As you can see from the thread, it's an elimination with extreme prejudice (movie quote!), as opposed to a temporary workaround.
If you troubleshoot the issue and it is the pump I have one loose, let us know how we can help.

Ok, so I did the solder thingy and put the diode in the ECU.
It worked! Yay!
But now I am trying to reset the readiness codes to prep the thing for emmisions.
I read a bunch of stuff. Have a bunch of driving 'instructions'
But some questions.
Says keep engine at 1800-2200 RPMs. And some steps say 1500-2000 RPMs. That's a tight area. Any problems if ya go over or under that?
Also, some say, start cold, get up to speed of 50 mph in 30 seconds. If ya have to wait at a light, or if you take a little longer to get up to speed, with that make it fail?
Also, if I have to wait at a light (getting out of the neighborhood, I don't live next to an on ramp for the interstate lol) that will throw off the time to get to 50 mph in 30 seconds.
Can I just shut the car off when I am at the on ramp, then restart and go?
Thoughts anyone...I don't wanna pay volvo $150 to drive and make the rediness codes available
Thanks!
Al
But I will tell ya the diode trick works like a champ! PM me I can tell ya Allllll about it.

Ok, so I started the V70 this am. Let it idle for 15 mins. Cold start to try getting some of readiness codes to move in a positive direction.
NOW..... I have the 410 code 'pending'.
Is that bad? Will that stop emmisions from passing?
Still going to try and get the other readiness codes to turn green.
I did find posts on doing a flywheel regeneration adaptation drive. They say you must do this before the drive cycles.
You guys have any experience with that one?
So currently, I am filling the gas to 3/4...and going to let the car cool down for about 5 hours.
Then try some drive cycles. There seem to be three main ones.
I will post them here when I have a moment.
Thanks!

Hello, just checking in at 853 am EST from lovely rainy Fairfax VA.
Where men are MEN! and sheep are nervouse....
Ok, so I filled the gas to a little over halfway.
I went and did the 'flywheel adaption' drive. Went like this.
Put V70 wagon GLT in 3rd gear. I have an automatic. So instead of putting the gearshift in 'D' I put the gearshift into '3' the marking on the shift plate. Ya know.....3rd gear!
Then , drove south on 286 from rt 50. Got the vehicle up to 3000-3500 RPMs. Held that level for about 15 seconds. Then, coasted down to 1000 RPMs approx.
Maybe 1200, sometimes 800, but slowed down WITHOUT HITTING THE BRAKE.
Then did this about 9 times. (I had to hit the brake once, so I did this 9 times instead of
No ac. No brake. No changing the gearshift position. Very slow and steady throttle application.
When I did hit the brake, once, I didn't count that run. So I did one more run up to 3000-3500 ...held for 15 seconds plus, then let my foot off of the throttle , and coasted to 1000 or under...plus or minus 150 RPMs.
One of my monitors became ready! Yay! Only 4 more to go....
