2017 XC-90 water damage

Post by Lukesmith »

I drive through a huge puddle last night that was about 2 ft deep. Someone else was passing the opposite direction and pushed a huge wave of water over my hood and then my car just turned off and wouldn’t start again. I think it’s just a sensor or something that is limiting the car and not letting it even turn over. I don’t think any water got into the engine but I’m not positive. What would you suggest I do??

Wow, where to begin... best case, the dunking blew some of the engine, battery and/or starter fuses. Did you check that? Worst case, the engine sucked up a helping of water and hydro-locked (water is not compressible). Do any indicator lamps come on when you turn the key on or is it completely dead?

It’s certainly possible to hydro lock an engine by sucking water into the intake. Quick check would be to look at the air filter, was it all wet / air ox full of water? Any resolution to this issue?
Looking for a V90 to be my next Volvo, at the very least a T5.

2017 XC90 Inscription - My best Volvo by far, but Ex-wife departed & I had to sell. 😕
2001 S80 T6 - rebuilt trans, head gasket, fixed & sold
1997 V70 - kid car, sold
1996 850 GLT - found under bridge, 2 year refurb project, commuter car, kid car, T-Boned - SIPS saved passenger. Totaled.
1997 VW GTI VR6 - exceedingly fast.
1971 VW Type II/231 - it was pointed out by management that the children would be killed in it.
