wobbly side view mirror
My driver side view mirror (just the mirror, not the whole mirror body) has recently started wobbling around at speed (>65mph). It does not do this at low speeds or over bumps etc., rather only from wind activity at highway speed. Driving me nuts! The motor works and I cannot see anything overtly wrong...anyone have any experience with this, know what it is and how to fix?

When I had the same problem, it turned out that one of plastic connections between motor and glass was broken(looks like plastic rod split in the middle and with round top that connects to the mirror plastic frame).

The passenger side mirror on our C30 started to do this. We thought it was something simple and it was but we let it go too long. The day we were going to look at it the mirror fell off and broke while driving. The glue that attaches the mirror to the black plastic frame that snaps to the motor assembly was dried so only the mirror glass came undone (see above eBay link). We were able to purchase just the glass for around $15.00 and use the existing black frame to remedy this problem.
Remove the entire piece to see if it's just the glass. If so gently remove without damaging the heater strips and reattach with thin double sided tape and silicone around the edges of the glass. If it oozes let it dry and remove with a razor. Make sure to clean all surfaces with 99% alcohol.

This says it works with the 2009 XC90 but not the R-Design. No heating elements on the back of this stand alone glass.

Found pictures from last year of the driver's side when it started wobbling. This time didn't let it fall and break while driving.

Awesome info, thanks all.
it seems the mirror is still stuck pretty well to the backing. it is the whole inner mirror part that is wobbling and just at speed with wind.
is there a procedure to pop the whole thing out (is is just a simple ball joint or something)? I don't mean just the glass, I mean the entire mirror plate. do i need to worry about breaking any weird plastic bits?
