fuel door doesn't lock Topic is solved
fuel door doesn't lock
Hey all.. so I noticed that my fuel door doesn't lock. I checked the fuse and that's good, one guy said it might be the actuator.. easy enough So the question is, does it have a relay too? 2004 V70.. thanks

I had a 2004 XC70....same body. Yes, the gas flap has a locking pin that is solenoid-controlled. Take a look in the Owner's Manual....I think there is a manual pull cord that pulls the pin to open the flap. This cord is a good way to evaluate the lock to see if the pin is broken.
As I recall, after filling the tank, when driving off, I could hear the pin locking. Hope that helps.

My fuel/gas door didnt lock because previous owner removed the relays..i have it working again but i recommend for tank security get a locking cap, the plastic locking pin is has a delay lock. I got a volvo locking cap, when i finish filling i lock it straight away no stupid delays and its impossible to break open unlike that plastic anti tamper pin.

Hey MDK,
The locking relay for the fuel filler door is also used for the two rear door locks (RMI20, fifth relay up from bottom on left side of REM). If your rear doors lock but your fuel filler door does not, then it's not the relay.
The unlocking relay for the fuel filler door is RMI21, 4th relay up from bottom on left side of REM.
I've had the locking problem multiple times. I always fixed it by removing the locking actuator, cleaning and regreasing the gear and rechecking the motor by testing separately with a 9 volt battery. The actual plug in to the motor pins is pretty poorly designed, it could also be those pins, or your wiring (but unlikely).
My 2001 T5 doesn't have the cord, and the 10 minute locking delay is a PITA, esp. when troubleshooting the lock/unlock mechanism. The hardest part of the repair is just getting to the actuator...easy to break old plastic parts.
Good luck.
PS. I just realized you have an S60 and not a V70. I don't know if the REM is the same but I'll bet the failure mode is.

hey there cmax.. 'ppreciate all the pertinent data. I went down and pulled rm120 and rm 121.. I could hear the relay clicking so yeah ..actuator. I was considering going to the junkyard and gets couple... ps.. I have both S60R and V70R.. the 2002 V70.. went bye bye.. that guys still driving that thing, I sold it a year ago.. The guys at Volvo and I'm serious.. " those wheels don't go on a wagon! those are for the sedan!!" .. I told em .. oh really ? 2bad..
so apparently, whoever had this wagon before.. when the fuel door actuator failed they unplugged it. I just got back from the junkyard and installed one I bought for 10$.. it's working now.. until that one fails .. I bought 2 for 20$.. MDK

Thanks for posting this info. 2004 XC70 fuel door AND rear door locks stopped working - Also fuel gauge stopped working at same time. I am going to track down this relay you speak of. I'm guessing REM stands for Rear Electronic Module. No? If I sound lost please explain like I'm a 6 year-old. Thanks!
